J1 & H2B In Country Seasonal Employees
Employer: Sorrel River Ranch
Location: Moab, UT (onsite — seasonal/resort)
Pay: $40,000 / year (seasonal; varies by role & tips)
Type: Seasonal — Hospitality / Resort (J-1 & H-2B visa opportunities)
What You’ll Do:
• Fill seasonal resort roles across departments — Housekeeping, Front Desk/Reservations, Restaurant Servers, Kitchen, Maintenance (mechanics/plumbing/HVAC), and Garden/Farm staff.
• Deliver guest-facing hospitality: room turn/cleaning, check-in/out, reservations, dining service, and high-touch customer care.
• Support back-of-house operations: food prep, plating, dish/cleanup, and maintaining kitchen/service flow.
• Perform maintenance and property support: routine repairs, groundskeeping, equipment upkeep, and support for on-site facilities.
• Participate in cultural-exchange activities (J-1) and follow program rules; assist with seasonal events and guest experiences.
• Work collaboratively in fast-paced shifts; follow resort procedures for safety, sanitation, and guest service.
Why It Stands Out:
• Work at a scenic ranch resort in Moab — strong outdoors/cultural experience and access to local attractions.
• Employer assists with visa application process and offers J-1 cultural-exchange placements and H-2B seasonal roles.
• Competitive pay plus tips (where applicable), free meals during shifts, and affordable staff housing when available.
• Hands-on hospitality roles that build transferable guest-service and technical skills in a close-knit team environment.
Potential Trade-offs:
• Seasonal role — job continuity is tied to the season and visa timelines.
• On-site housing is subject to availability and may carry costs; remote location may require relocation.
• Physically demanding work (long shifts, active on your feet, manual tasks).
• Visa paperwork/timelines and program rules add administrative steps before start; acceptance depends on eligibility.
• Benefits for contractors/seasonal staff are typically limited compared with full-time, year-round roles.
Qualifications / Requirements:
• Eligible for J-1 (cultural exchange) or H-2B (temporary seasonal worker) programs; employer helps with visa process.
• Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and team-oriented mindset.
• Ability to work in fast-paced, guest-facing hospitality environments.
• Previous hospitality or customer-service experience preferred but not always required.
• Willingness to perform physical tasks and work varied shifts typical of resort operations.
Perks / Benefits:
• Competitive pay and tips (where applicable).
• Free meals while on shift.
• Affordable staff housing available (subject to availability).
• Cultural exchange opportunities and a supportive resort team culture.
• Experience working at a destination resort — great for resumes and seasonal career growth.

Would you take this job?
If you were applying, what would be your top three non-negotiables: (A) confirmed housing details + total cost and move-in/out dates, (B) clear visa sponsorship & timeline support (exact J-1/H-2B process and employer assistance), or (C) transparent pay + tips policy and shift/schedule clarity (hours per week, expected season length)? Which would you pick and why — and what would you ask the hiring manager before accepting (for example: “Is staff housing guaranteed and what does it cost?”, “Exactly how do you support the J-1/H-2B application process and what timelines should I expect?”, “How is pay structured per role and how are tips handled/distributed?”)?
