Why did the aircraft engineer bring a ladder

I was testing some performance metrics and had a thought about how engineers sometimes need a high-level perspective —. Just last week, we were talking about system integration and the importance of being on the same page, but I couldn’t help but laugh when I imagined someone hauling a ladder to have a ‘higher perspective’ during a reliability test. Anyone else have funny stories from the engineering field?

I once took a stepladder to a site visit during a reliability test because we needed to check some overhead components. It definitely made for a memorable day when my colleague joked that we should start a trend. But it’s about the right tools for the job — if only I had a drone instead for that ‘higher perspective’! @engineerlife might appreciate that idea.

I totally get that ‘higher perspective’ idea! I’ve had to use a ladder once during a reliability test just to get a proper view of the overhead systems without craning my neck all day. It definitely made the day more interesting, though those things can be a bit of a hassle to lug around, especially if you’re in a tight spot.
