Language challenges in daily life

I’ve been in my host city for about three months now, and the language barrier is both exciting and frustrating. Sometimes, simple things like ordering coffee can turn into a mini-adventure. I’m curious how others navigate these daily challenges while living abroad. Any tips or funny stories to share?

I can totally relate to the coffee ordering struggle! I’ve found that using a translation app can really help in those moments… It’s funny how something so simple can turn into a little adventure.

But trying to communicate can feel like a game of charades sometimes, right — i’ve found that picking up a few key phrases before heading out can make a huge difference. Have you tried learning any local slang?

When I first got here, I used flashcards to learn a few key phrases about food and drinks before heading out. It made ordering so much easier! Ever tried that approach, @jared_h76?
