Building connections during your J-1 experience

One of the most rewarding parts of the J-1 visa experience is the connections you make along the way… Whether it’s with locals, fellow J-1 holders, or your colleagues, these relationships can really enhance your time here. I’m curious, what strategies have you used to network and form those lasting connections?

I’ve found that regular meetups, like local coffee catch-ups or game nights, are fantastic for fostering those connections… It really helps you bond over shared experiences. One thing to keep in mind, though, is to be open to reaching out first — sometimes others might not take the initiative.

For me, joining local clubs or organizations around shared interests has been a game changer. It not only helps in networking but also adds to the experience. Have you tried any specific clubs, @pmoore60?

Making connections can feel like dating; sometimes you just have to swipe right on a new friend. Attending community events can open doors in unexpected ways. Have you checked out any local festivals or meetups?
